“About us”

The grandparents of our owner, Anthony F. Stellino migrated in the 1920’s for a new life in America, never forgetting their Sicilian roots, instilling in their children and grandchildren Sicilian traditions and ideology to succeed and enjoy and always remember their roots. Today, Anthony has recreated that sentiment in two distinct Sicilian treasures “Baglio Passofondo” and “Villa Cristina Scopello” on the north western tip of the island of Sicily.

Named after Anthony’s elder daughter

Villa Cristina Scopello, named after Anthony’s elder daughter is his latest work of love. He tells us “in every stone I can see my grandparents love of Sicily”. Originally a magnificent country home at the sea, Villa Cristina Scopello today operates as a modern and state of the art small luxury hotel and resort with seven premium guestrooms and seven private villas amongst rows of olive trees, pomegranate trees, organic gardens and table grapes. Atop the property there are three gardens, a reading garden, a night garden with a fire pit and a prayer garden for viewing the vast southern Mediterranean Sea. 180 rare rose bushes trim the cobblestone entrance to the estate where you find a 300 meter round salt water pool with an island and swim up bar, three panoramic sunbathing decks, two fine dining restaurants, a Bar, an underground Cantina with rare Sicilian wines, International wines and spirits and a Day Spa and Wellness Centre. Private and secluded, Villa Cristina Scopello offers guests a memorable regeneration in the peace and quiet of the north western Sicilian coast.

From the Latin "vallum", fortress, and from the Arabic "bahal" = inner courtyard

Baglio Passofondo was a three year renovation project of a “baglio” from the Latin "vallum", fortress, and from the Arabic "bahal" = inner courtyard. This term refers to the typical fortified buildings of the Sicilian countryside of the eighteenth century, belonging to families of landowners and characterized by the presence of an internal courtyard and high walls of protection. They were originally used for the care of animals and for the storage and the first processing of grapes and olives). Originally constructed in1852 on a picturesque vineyard in the rolling hills of Alcamo’s DOC white wine region, home to his grandfather Stellino, this carefully and well thought out dream became a reality in May of 2018. The historical site of rare stone walls and travertine floors, museum quality in every minor detail.
Today serves as a five Star Boutique Hotel and Resort sprawling 50 acres of vineyards and olive groves, organic gardens and lush landscaping featuring ten Deluxe Guestrooms, a Fine Dining Restaurant, a Bar and an underground Cantina with rare and local Sicilian and International wines and spirits, Within its stone walled courtyard there is a year-around heated pool and relax area, a Day Spa and Wellness Centre. In its short time, Baglio Passofondo has earned a 9.6 rating from Booking.com and a perfect 5 from Expedia and Trip Advisor from its many international guests.
